Blink and you'll miss the angst...

Darcy's father (a nonchalant fellow who is obsessed with grandkids) is still alive and pressures him (contrary to character) to marry or be disinherited. Though his father's standard (literally) is that it cannot be an actress or someone's mistress our hero still struggles over choosing Lizzy. The rest of the angst isn't all that dramatic because it resolves too quickly. The writing was better than some but not in the Austen style. It's another short story, not a full novel. If not for Kindle Unlimited I would steer clear for the price on these. Kudos to the author for giving us a stand alone story and not this new trend of making us wait for a sequel though.

Different twist and cute novella. It was nice to meet Darcy's father in this version. He was a man on a mission.

We finally meet Darcy's father and I liked his character very much. The parenting roles are reversed in this "what-if" and it was a fresh change. The late Mrs. Ann Darcy was the stoic one with much concern for thoughts of the ton. Knowing William Darcy to be much like his mother, George Darcy was determined to force his son to seriously search for a wife. William had used his cousin Anne as an excuse for five years and it was time to get on with the program. George wanted to see his grand children. I like the way George Darcy dealt with Wickham too.

Elizabeth was facing much the same situation. Mr. Collins had come to collect a wife and Mrs. Bennett was determined that one of her daughters would be mistress of Longbourn when Mr. Bennett died. Jane appeared to have Charles Bingley, so she was off the market.
It looked like Lizzy would be the one he settled on. Jane and Lizzy coaxed Mrs. Bennett into a season in London with the Gardiners before Collins was allowed to propose.

So the race is on, Darcy and Elizabeth both have ultimatums and to London they go. How nice our Darcy and Lizzy had a chance meeting on a muddy road two miles from Longbourn before their "final season" in London had even started. But did this meeting leave them with good impressions of each other?

Thank goodness for George Darcy's trip to London before the season was over.

Exceptionally well-written, entertaining variation on P&P!

I adored this book. The premise was very interesting: what if Darcy's father was still alive and chomping at the bit for grandchildren, and what if Elizabeth was a few short months away from betrothal to Mr. Collins? This variation was true to the characters, but added some traits I think we all imagine (or hope) are there anyway - a bit of backbone in both Jane and Bingley, and a little more logic in the face of dislike from Elizabeth. If you're a JAFF fan who loves a well-written variation (with a HEA, of course!), I highly recommend this!

About the Author
Jason Brubaker began his career in graphic novels in 2011 with the Xeric Award winning reMIND which also got on the Great Graphic Novels for Teens list 2012. He works at Dreamworks Animation in Visual Development on many movies including Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2.

For 7 years and change Jeremy Barlow was an associate editor at Dark Horse Comics, now he writes comic books and video games full time. He lives in Portland, OR with his wife and a house full of cats.

Enjoyable and entertaining

[[VIDEOID:moQDDJPXRXD9PZ]]When I first came across Jason Brubaker's website, reMIND only had a few chapters. Now, it's a printed graphic novel available for sale. 152 pages, nicely bind. That was quick.

The story starts with Sonja who lost her cat Victuals in a mysterious bubbling pool of water. Several days later, Victuals came back a talking cat. The story then explores what happened.

It's a nice and unique story, an action adventure mixed with some surprises. The characters are interesting, not just Victuals but also the others which are introduced.

The art is beautiful with a textural feel that's a good match for the story. The composition is fantastic, panels carefully laid out with purpose and that really aids the storytelling.

The book ends with an inspiring look at the process of making the graphic novel as an independent creator.

Also be sure to check out the reMIND website because there are lots of useful information there, like tips on creating graphic novels or promoting your web comic. While you can actually find the graphic novel available as a free web comic there, it's always cool to support artists who create good comics by getting a physical copy.

For those who have been following his work online, you'll probably get an extra sense of appreciation knowing how much effort this book represents.

I enjoy the book very much.

Amazing comic book but not worth hundreds of dollars, check the website

The comic book has incredible artwork a compelling story and interesting character, definitley worth a read.But it's available from the author's website online and the second printing isn't far off, so i'd suggest against spending hundreds of dollrs for it. I quote the author;

"Also, just so you know, I have been all sold out of reMIND Vol. 1 on Amazon for over a week now. Because of this, there are several computerized stores that are jacking up the price to $200 to $300 for a copy now. I assure you, this is not a good price to pay for the book because I will be reprinting it in several months and selling it again for the cover price. So if you really want a copy, then just join my mailing list and you will be notified when I launch my new Kickstarter (in about 5 months) and you will be able to get the first books off the press."

Great Art, Tough Story for this Reader

I really had a tough time getting immersed in this novel. The strongest aspect here is definitely the artwork. I really love the use of paper textures to make a more traditional look in a market full of plastic looking photoshop airbrushing. The way they bleed through panels unifies the layouts and the compositions are fantastic. That being said, while they're very well done, I don't really see this "new coffee table" scope that Brubaker refers to in the afterword. The inking is energetically visceral yet refined. Color choice and lighting are also expertly implemented. It reminds me of Mignola's Hellboy with it's selective detail and dramatic lighting. I feel like the style difference between Sonja and Victuals clashes, but that's pretty much a personal preference. I definitely love the power and energy in how all of the lizard characters are drawn, as well.

Speaking of the Lizard people, the story of this novel was tough for me to get into. I really thought Sonja would be the main character, but this definitely becomes Victuals' story. I think the shortcomings of the characters made this fantastic story hard for me to get immersed in. I think big fantasy stories like this heavily rely on a clear protagonist to guide the reader, and I feel like I got left behind here. Obviously, other readers were very engrossed in the story and characters, so you should definitely give it a shot if reMIND interests you. Overall, I think Brubaker has a lot to offer as reMIND vol.1 was obviously a very lengthy, intimate and hard won project to achieve. While reMIND was a miss for me, I'm definitely interested in whatever else he has to offer graphic novels.

This is a great series

I like this series - it has great characters and plenty of action, lots of world building and genuinely worth a try if this is the genre you like.

So why only 3 stars?

I give 5 stars to books I just cannot put down, you know four o'clock in the morning with an exam in five hours, but no way can I stop reading.

I give 4 stars to books I will grudgingly put down at midnight for that exam or job interview tomorrow,

I give three stars to books that I like but can put down from time to time.

The reason for this rating was the fact that throughout the book there are these editing errors of words that get mixed up. For example sow vs sew. I find that when I read that the ladies are sowing by a window, I just crack up laughing at the thought of them throwing seeds round the room. Having cracked up laughing, I need to put the book down because the train of thought has been interrupted and I don't get that obsessive need to turn the page.

It is not recommended for those who hate these sorts of errors. I don't dislike such things, but they do make me giggle to the point where the flow of the novel is interrupted at that point.

Excellent series

An enjoyable tale. The story is fresh and the characters are memorable enough that the weaving of different perspectives works the best I've ever seen in a novel. There are a few spelling errors that cause a slight hitch in the immersion of the book series, but only a handful so it was not too bad.

Great first reader!

I have four boys - three of whom are old enough to read - and they have loved reading this series. You can read any of the books on their own, but why not start with this first, original story? The books are entertaining, and it's fun to try to solve the mystery as you read. I believe the newer additions may be divided into chapters, but originally these books were not. Either way, they are perfect for kids who have started reading on their own and are wanting to read a "chapter book." To me, this book is the perfect segue from picture books to chapter books. It's short enough to finish in a few days (early readers) or even just an hour or so (stronger readers). These books gave my kids a great sense of accomplishment in being able to read the whole thing all by themselves. I think that is priceless in boosting their confidence and interest in reading. I should also mention that while my boys loved these books, they would be great for girls also.

Great book for 2nd graders-all reading levels

I had used this book years ago for a 2nd grade book group at my childrens' school (for 7 years). That group was mostly advanced readers who chose to use their free period to go to a monthly book group. They loved the book and the solve a mystery activity that we did.

I am now volunteering with 2nd graders who have reading problems (many whose parents are not literate or don't speak English) and I read with a 2nd grader once a week. He loved this book and loved the treasure hunt activity we did with it. I gave it to another volunteer and she said it was the first book that the 2nd grade boy that she reads with would read out loud-for the previous few months, she read aloud to him. Before we read the book, we previewed vocabulary (made some cards) for the "detective words" (in the back of the book in new editions) and words that might be challenging.

This is a great book and has kept my almost 7 year old entertained. It is a quality version with sturdy pages and spine. I would recommend this to any 6+ year olds looking for something a bit different to read.

About the Author
Judith A. Boss earned her PhD in 1990 from Boston University, her MA from Dalhousie University in Canada in 1971, and her BA from the University of Western Australia in 1969. Prior to pursing a career in academia, she worked as a writer/researcher for the Nova Scotia Museum. She was on the faculty of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Rhode Island from 1988 to 1995 and worked as Assistant Director of Curriculum Affairs at Brown University School of Medicine until 2004, when she "retired" to return to full-time writing. She remained at Brown University as a visiting scholar with the philosophy department for several years while working on her textbooks. In addition to her philosophical interests, she completed a MS in Human Development at URI in 1991 and has led faculty workshops and written extensively on the topic of college student development. She was recipient of a URI Foundation Grant to study the effects of community service learning on students' moral development and has served as a grant application reviewer for the Corporation for National Service. The author of nine books, her publications include ANALYZING MORAL ISSUES and ETHICS FOR LIFE, both with McGraw-Hill. Her textbook THiNK, also with McGraw-Hill, just came out in 2009. She is published in, among other, The Journal of Moral Education, Public Affairs Quarterly, The Journal of Medical Ethics, Academic Medicine, Educational Theory, Free Inquiry, and The Journal of Experiential Education. During her spare time she volunteers with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and is active in the Appalachian Mountain Club. An avid traveler, she has traveled with students from the University of Rhode Island and Brown Medical School to work with underserved, indigenous people in Guatemala and Mexico. Her favorite travel destination, however, is Antarctica, and Blue Ice, a suspense/thriller she wrote that is set in Antarctica, is coming out in print next year. She lives in Rhode Island with her daughter, son-in-law and twin granddaughters.

-easy to use, text was easy to read, navigating through specific pages was easy
-opens up on the last page you viewed so you can continue reading

Cons:
-thought I had it rented until mid-December, but it expired in November. I tried looking it up to see if I may have accidentally set it for November, instead of December, but the dates are not in my order history. I think seeing how long you rented it for should be easier to find (although I still haven't).
-no extensions on your rental date unless you fork over 60$ (which is way more than if I had just set it to December)

Overall: the ebook works and it works fine. Having an ebook is so much easier than having a physical textbook. Make sure you set it for the correct date and you will be good to go. :)

Good for college

This ebook has page numbers which is great but I cannot read on my kindle only my PC. I am taking an online class so its great to read my book in one browswer/tab and cut and paste my quotes into my paper in another tab. Some books for college don't have page numbers but this one does. Only down side is it wont load to my cloud.

Operative Obstetrics Treasure

This book is simply fantastic. For the practicing obstetrician, it encompasses almost all the issues dealing with the specialty, concerning operative techniques. For the student, there is a lot of new approaches to subjects that other books do not show. For example, there's an entire chapter on symphysiotomy, another on external cephalic version, both subjects very rarely seen in such depth in common textbooks. There's also a very good chapter on surgical basics, dealing with needles, sutures and knots. In short, i recommend this book for those who truly love Obstetrics' practice.

Lots of information

I could not put this book down! If you have any interest or questions about the end times and prophecy's surrounding it you must read this book! As the author states there is going to be disagreement about how to interpret certain verses. The ways scholars interpret scripture are all explained in detail at the beginning of the book.

As you read through the timetable presented here be sure to look up the verses mentioned. Not a lot of verses are written out but there are ample amounts of references that the author refers the reader to. I did not look up each one but did look up most and found it really helped me grasp what was being presented.

I think reading this book will make you excited about what is to come and make you want to read even more of the Bible for yourself. I learned much from this book and will be keeping it on my bookshelf for reference. I gave this book 5/5 stars because it met all my expectations and I learned from all the information presented.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Are we really living in the last days? Read this book and find out!

Do you believe we are living in the last days? Do you believe that the rapture of the church will be happening in this lifetime? What about what is happening in the Middle East in regards to the threats against Israel by her enemies and threats to "wipe it off the face of the Earth?"

If you've never taken the time to read the Bible and gain some understanding of where we are at in regards to the fulfilling of Bible Prophecy, now is the time! I've gained some study in the past in the book of Relevation and in understand the symbolism found there but I had the opportunity to review, The End Times in Chronological Order by Ron Rhodes and found this to be an amazing study to work through. In fact, I got my husband involved and we literally dove into the Bible through this book working through not only the book of Revelation in the Bible, but the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, but also 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 Peter, Romans, Daniel and Ezekiel just to name a few.

This book charts everything from how to understand the symbolism found in different books in the Bible, understanding context clues, figurative language and which passages to take literally. Ron does an exceptional job at showing us the history between the Old and New Testament passages including bringing Israel back into statehood in 1948 and the continual migration back of the Jews has been increasing at an alarming rate since then.

He outlines what should be happening next according to the Bible which should be the rapture of the church before the attack and fulfillment of Bible prophecy regarding the deadly attack on Israel from the countries surrounding her, including Russia, Iran, Turkey, Libya, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Algeria, Tunisia, Armenia, from the Book of Ezekiel 38; rise of power of the antichrist, the signing of the peace treaty of Israel, the coming tribulation and judgement against the unbelievers and the second coming of Christ.

It is chilling to see the current state of the United States and why it seems to be missing from the end times prophecies. Is it because the United States comprises most of the world's population of Christians (believers in Jesus Christ) that if we should all vanish in the rapture of the church, this would cause the once powerful country of the world to give up her super power status in the eyes of the world?

For those of you that LOVE Bible prophecy and end times Bible Study's, then this is a MUST read for you. I received this book compliments of Harvest House Publishers and Net Galley for my honest review and am so glad I got this one. I've been spending more time in my Bible now than ever before and LOVE that I was able to follow the logic in this book so seamlessly. Without a doubt, hands down a 5 out of 5 stars! I'll be reading this one again and again as I continue to learn more about where we are headed and for me, I truly believe we are in the last days unless this country comes to a deep understanding and give up her complacent ways in regards to God's Word to how we should be living our lives.

Finally - a scientific look at the advantages of dyslexia

Now "THIS" is the book I have been waiting for. As a dyslexic myself and the parent of at least one dyslexic (and gifted) child - this book is life changing, especially in terms of the educational outlook for my children. The Eides have done what so many "claim" to do in their books, but never really get there. They show clear, concrete, and proven advantages to the way the brain works for dyslexics, and shows why those advantages have "trade offs" when it comes to learning things such as reading, writing, and spelling. Basically, the way the dyslexic brain works, people with dyslexia tend to be much, much better than average in four particular areas - described as the M.I.N.D. areas. These cover things such as being able to see objects in 3D and manipulate them on ones mind (a great skill for Engineers, designers, builders, etc.), the ability to see advanced and complex connections between things (an amazing skill for systems engineers, entrepreneurs, psychologists, lawyers, etc.), amazing long term memory, etc. While these advantages are amazing, great, needed, and should be utilized to the best of ones ability - these advantages are there because the dyslexic brain is wired in such a way to support them. The down side is this wiring is the most inefficient way to learn the skills of reading, writing, and spelling. While those are true downsides, that doesn't mean dyslexic individuals can't learn to read, write, and spell - most do. The Eides just show a much better route to those skills.
Another BIG thing I love about this book is how they extensively cover accommodations (like speech-to-text software and digital books). In most dyslexic individuals, there will be a point in which one reaches diminishing returns in terms of reading, writing, and spelling - no matter how much intervention they won't get any better than that point. However, that doesn't mean their learning must stop - the proper accommodations will allow these individuals to reach their full potential in life. And surprisingly, the full potential of a dyslexic is actually more "successful" than a non-dyslexic. Dyslexic individuals are over represented in the top tiers among almost all professions - especially the sciences, engineering, and creative fields (writing, acting, art, music, etc.). Yes, dyslexics who struggle with reading and writing turn out to be amazing writers of everything from fiction to fantasy books (and I suppose one accommodation is hiring a good editor who can see past the spelling mistakes to the amazing content).
The last part of the book deals with the best ways of teaching reading, spelling, and writing to dyslexic individuals - from elementary to college to adults in the workplace. The advice and tips are amazing and I plan on incorporating many of them immediately into our homeschooling plans. They also cover proper accommodations depending on the skill and level of the individual. Another important point of this section is to also encourage the strengths of individuals with dyslexia. Again - there is going to be a point of diminishing returns in teaching reading and writing based skills - so also focus on those areas in which dyslexic individuals thrive.
Another area is the best educational options for gifted individuals. Now this will be the area many parents will struggle with. The truth is traditional school environments are NOT set up to accommodate dyslexic individuals. It isn't for lack of want, but many educational institutions just don't fully understand dyslexia for what it is, and what it isn't. As a result, the best fits for dyslexic students (at least for some time in their for educational years) might be special education classrooms (those that focus on education and not so much behavior I am assuming), schools that specialize in teaching dyslexic students, private schools that allow children to work at their own pace (think Sundry or Reggio or Montessori), and finally homeschooling.
The final chapter and another gem of this book is the resources section. It has websites and resources to cover the tips they described in the text.
A lot of thought and and research, and I believe passion and love went into this book. Again, it really will be a life changer for many individuals with dyslexia (heck, there is even a section that covers adult dyslexics in the workplace!)

Especially helpful for parents of dyslexic children!

Any parent of a dyslexic child soon learns two things: 1) their child is very bright but thinks and learns differently from peers, 2) the educational system does not serve them very well. Our struggles as parents are often immense as we work to advocate for our dyslexic child in a society that, more often than not, discards a dyslexic intellect as inferior and unlikely to succeed in life. This wonderful book explains through example after example how the complete opposite is the case. Dyslexic minds may have troubles with conventional ways of "doing things" but it is for that reason that they have been the pivotal forces behind discoveries and innovations that have led our culture forward for centuries (if not millennia).

This book is not just for parents of dyslexic children, but for anyone who is interested in in deepening their understanding of the human mind/brain and especially those who are interested in correlations between mentation and society. This is an engaging read, full of beautiful thoughts by many of the most influential minds of contemporary society. The Eides (both MDs) bring their extensive knowledge together in a book unlike any other on the market. It will change the way you look, not just at dyslexics, but at how we, as a society, are all too quick to judge those who are "different".

The best resource so far!

I'm 39 years old and ran my own landscaping business for 20
years. I all ways had problems with reading, writing and math. I failed the sixth grade and was sent off to boarding school. Unfortunately witih the bad economy I lost my business. Now it was time to face my demands once again. I tried going back to school to improve my skills, for some reason I thought
Things would be different. They weren't.

To make a long story short I've been through tons of testing over the years. They all said one thing, that I was lazy. I was tested again and was diagnosed as having dyslexia. I bought this book soon afterwards. It was one of the best resources I've come across yet. I found myself in so many instances. I think this book would be positive for anybody with this problem.
