About the Author
Dr. David R. Anderson is a textbook author and Professor Emeritus of Quantitative Analysis in the College of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. He has served as head of the Department of Quantitative Analysis and Operations Management and as Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration. He was also coordinator of the College's first Executive Program. In addition to introductory statistics for business students, Dr. Anderson has taught graduate-level courses in regression analysis, multivariate analysis, and management science. He also has taught statistical courses at the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Professor Anderson has received numerous honors for excellence in teaching and service to student organizations. He is the coauthor of ten textbooks related to decision sciences and actively consults with businesses in the areas of sampling and statistical methods. Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, he earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees from Purdue University.

Dr. Dennis J. Sweeney is a textbook author, Professor Emeritus of Quantitative Analysis and founder of the Center for Productivity Improvement at the University of Cincinnati. He also served five years as head of the Department of Quantitative Analysis and four years as Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration. In addition, he has worked in the management science group at Procter & Gamble and has been a visiting professor at Duke University. Professor Sweeney has published more than 30 articles in the area of management science and statistics. The National Science Foundation, IBM, Procter & Gamble, Federated Department Stores, Kroger, and Cincinnati Gas & Electric have funded his research, which has been published in MANAGEMENT SCIENCE, OPERATIONS RESEARCH, MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING, DECISION SCIENCES, and other journals. Dr. Sweeney is the coauthor of ten textbooks in the areas of statistics, management science, linear programming, and production and operations management. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he earned a BS degree from Drake University, graduating summa cum laude. He received his MBA and DBA degrees from Indiana University, where he was an NDEA Fellow.

Dr. Thomas A. Williams is Professor of Management Science in the College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology where he was the first chairman of the Decision Sciences Department. He teaches courses in management science and statistics, as well as graduate courses in regression and decision analysis. Before joining the College of Business at RIT, Professor Williams served for seven years as a faculty member in the College of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati, where he developed the undergraduate program in Information Systems and then served as its coordinator. The co-author of 11 leading textbooks in the areas of management science, statistics, production and operations management, and mathematics, Professor Williams has been a consultant for numerous Fortune 500 companies and has worked on projects ranging from the use of data analysis to the development of large-scale regression models. He earned his B.S. degree at Clarkson University and completed his graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

The best intermediate to advanced statistics textbook

This textbook is the best intermediate to advanced statistics textbook currently available on the market today.The Excel instructions are self explanatory and include every step needed to apply a particular statistical procedure.The instructions for calculating joint probability tables and constructing tree diagrams are excellent and easy to follow.The example problems include all the steps.The notation used is simple,direct and straightforward.It will not cause any confusion for a student.The handling of p-values in hypothesis testing and multiple regression analysis is very well done.Based on my extensive teaching experience at the college and university level,I would highly recommend this book to a student, who is taking a statistics course that emphasizes applications, at the intermediate to advanced level.

***DOES NOT INCLUDE ACCESS TO CENGAGENOW***

Don't buy this book new thinking the "printed access card" will allow you to access a specific course's CNow homework/tests/etc. It will not. Per Cengage's tech support "Alex" when I asked why my course key wasn't being accepted after entering the access code from my new textbook:

"What you registered was Textbook Resources this isn't CengageNOW. Unless you have another access code that came with your book you may need to purchase a CengageNOW access code."

I was, however, helpfully provided a link where I could purchase a CengageNOW code for another $80 in addition to the $165 I'd already spent.

Moral of the story: Save your money and don't buy new if you need CengageNOW for your course. Buy used and buy the CNOW code separately.

OR

Buy the CengageNOW code for $80 and use the ebook that is provided along with that purchase.

The book looks well written and has good reviews overall, but I won't do any better than two stars for misdirection, lack of clarity, and Cengage's bait-and-switch approach.

About the Author
Bruce J. West is Chief Mathematical Scientist with the Information Science Directorate at the Army Research Office, a position he has held for the last 10 years. After receiving his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester in 1970, he was Associate Director of a small private research institute (La Jolla Institute) for almost twenty years and a Professor at the University of North Texas for a decade. His research interests are in the nonlinear dynamics of complex networks. He has over 350 scientific publications, including 11 books and 8500 citations, and he has received multiple academic and government awards for his research and publications.

Paolo Grigolini is currently a Professor in the Physics Department and the Center for Nonlinear Science at the University of North Texas. He is an internationally recognized theorist interested in the foundations of quantum mechanics, including wave function collapse and the influence of classical chaos on quantum systems. His other research interests include the foundations of statistical physics, biophysical problems such as DNA sequencing and the network science of human decision making and cognition.

DR. JUSTIN PATERSON (Thames Ditton, Surrey, England) is a drummer, record producer, and teacher of drumming and music technology. He worked as a session drummer for many years before turning to programming, sound design, and production. Since 2004, he has worked at the London College of Music, part of the University of West London, where he leads the MA course in Advanced Music Technology. He has published numerous research papers and given master class on drum programming for the Audio Engineering Society in the UK. He has also been involved in software development.

This is an incisive study of the relationship between two of paradigm-shifting fields of enquiry to emerge from the second-half of the 20th century: Cultural Studies and Postcolonial Studies. Lars Jensen presents a compelling analysis of the disciplining of the fields of scholarship, locating each in its specific history of institutionalisation and political and ideological orientation, while demonstrating the ways in which the fields developed a parallel focus around the place of the individual in terms of race, ethnicity, class and gender. The figure of Stuart Hall looms large, providing the intellectual structure for a comparative study as well as acting as a political barometer for the struggle by a Black British intellectual moving between Britain and the Caribbean. An original and provocative book that explains the continuing value of critiquing power and disciplinary practices. This book is both timely and untimely. It positions Stuart Hall––one of the major public intellectuals of his age, and already sorely missed––at the cusp of British Cultural Studies and Postcolonial Studies. Lars Jensen does a fine job in showing how these two fields have operated in dialogue with one another, even if that dialogue has not always been registered or recognized. Lars Jensen is associate professor of cultural encounters in the Department of Culture and Identity at Roskilde University in Denmark. He is author of Unsettling Australia: Readings in Australian Cultural History (Atlantic, 2010) and co-editor of A Historical Companion to Postcolonial Literatures: Continental Europe and its Empires (Edinburgh University Press, 2008), Postcolonialising the Nordic (Ashgate, 2012) and the forthcoming collection Crisis in the Nordic Nations and Beyond (Ashgate 2014).

Long, Longer, Longest [of the series of seven]

This is book Three of the seven full-length satirical novels in Douglas Lindsay's series on Glaswegian barber Barney Thomson. And it does not seem a spoiler to me, to observe that when there are seven Barney Thomson novels, you know he will somehow live through the third to see the fourth. Although Thomson in truth dies more than once during the series....

In paperback, A Prayer for Barney Thomson spans four hundred pages. Take out the rhapsodic passages about Elvis Presley, and you would probably end up with a novel of the same length as the other, shorter six books [leaving aside the three novellas].

In my opinion, you need to read at least the first of the books, titled The Long Midnight of Barney Thomson, for background in order to understand Book Three. A Prayer for Barney Thomson begins where Book One was set, in Thomson's native Glasgow; it ends up at the University of St. Andrew's, a long way from home.

Take it to the next level!

Excellent book by Pastor Vernon, that speaks to the modern church. If you want to know how to take your church to the next level then this is a must read for you and your leadership team. The generations of today are not interested in how we used to do church, they are much more interested in how to be the church. Pastor Vernon in this book gives us practical steps and insights in how to be the 21st century church. Order it you won't be disappointed.

A Great Resource for all Pastors

This book is a great resource for all pastors. Dr. Vernon gives several thought provoking ideas on how to increase the membership size of your church. He even gives ideas on how to hire staff and develop your team. I was very impressed at how easy of a read the book was yet it packed a lot of information. He was able to keep the information contained in the book simple and practical that pastors on every level can gain insight from something in this book. I feel that pastors and their leaders should read this book if they want to jump start their ministries. I also purchased the DVD interview that he has discussing the book as well.

I was not sure what to expect from this book. Like many of you I had only seen him on TV until he came to preach at a church in our city. I did not know much about his ministry or his church before purchasing this book. I must say that after reading the book my wife and I drove to Cleveland to see if we could identify the things we read in the book in action. We were really impressed that this book was an honest explanation of how he has built his ministry. What I felt more encouraged about was that the things I saw and read can be done by ministries of all sizes. I am not connected to Dr. Vernon but I really value this book as a great resource and I do believe that any person who reads this book will benefit from it greatly.

a must read for young pastors

I really enjoyed this book with a great modern insight into the pastorate and the issues that we face as pastors trying to save a "new" generation.
This book will encourage you and also inspire you to grow and innovate in your church. He is also very transparent and honest about his issues and the things he has
had to personally face and deal with in his ministry. We can do it!!
