Quite a challenge, but well worth it!

I am 25 years old, and I have dated since I was 16, moving from boyfriend to boyfriend as soon as possible. I always felt lonely if I didn't have someone to hold hands with, kiss, snuggle with, etc. But every one of my nine relationships ended in someone getting hurt because one of us was not ready to make the big commitment. I also ended up having intimate relations, as it is very difficult to say no when you are in a relationship for a long time. (I know of only a handful of 20+ people who have accomplished this.) After ending my most recent relationship, this book looked very appealling. I read it and I was all set to give up dating. Now that my hurt and anger have diminished, the books advice gets hard to follow, especially being the holidays...however...
I have never been so happy with the direction my life is taking, and it's getting easier every day. For anyone reading this review, please take heart and give this way of living a chance. The bad reviews sound like they are coming from people who do not have the conviction or will power to give up intimacy. You will meet many, many men/women like this, and they make it very hard to stick to your guns. And others make it sound like living like this makes it impossible to meet people - not true! You meet people of the same sex and become freinds, don't you? Just treat the opposite sex the same way while you are getting to know them! (Very hard, but not impossible!) And just let me say - for those who think that Joshua Harris did not have enough experience or was old enough to know what he was talking about, I believe it is God's message, through Josh, we are hearing when we read I Kissed Dating Goodbye. Please give it a chance - you will not regret it! I've gotten so many rewards already.

I kissed dating goodbye...uh oh, not another "Christian dating" book!!!!

I had been resisting reading this book for years as the title had given me completely the wrong idea. I'm not really sure what I had expected this book to be. I for sure thought it would say "dating" is wrong but rather it stated that the current view of "dating" is confused.
I only picked this book on my pastor's recommendation and I only wish I had done so sooner. This book was written by a 24 year guy and his wisdom is unfathomable for someone of that age. This book challenged some of my thinking and has made me be more thoughtful and prayerful before just letting my heart guide my head.
Quite honestly, anyone could benefit from reading this book. A lot of the thoughts put forward applied to the Christian walk in general in addition to the relationship ideas. I feel this book has given me a clearer perspective and helped me to understand the gift of "singleness" and the "preparation" for marriage much better. With coming from a peer rather than from a married person, these concepts become much easier to embrace.
I recommend this book to anyone who is single, has single friends or is in any form of ministry where there are single people. This is a good book which gives some good thoughts to those who may have a warped view of dating and relationships from the Christian perspective.

..Changed my mind completely, definately doable...

I have to admit, I orginally viewed myself as a "victim" of this book. I was dating this girl, who was reading this book, and it ended for reasons that at the time that were unknown and confusing to me. I've since heard others talk about the book, and how great it was, and hated it even more. I, of all people, hate dating more than anything, but for lack of a resonable and realistic alternative, have stuck to it. I bought this book to debunk the whole idea of it, and give me a better reference to argue my point against the "I kissed dating goodbye" theme. Looking at the back cover and seeing the young, good looking author, who might have been a Backstreet boy fueled my anger even more. I figured it would be easy to tear apart. I've gotta say though, by the end of the third chapter I was repenting :) I think it's really impossible to explain this book to some one in a few short paragraphs, you really just have to read it for yourself. It's realistic, it's honest, and Josh makes alot of great points. I realize I owe that girl an apology. I think any young men and women who love the Lord could really benefit from this book, and save yourself a lot of pain and frustration. My $.02
