The opposite of a quick read the questions at the end of each of the 20 steps clarify business vision and lead you through steps to translate your clear vision into your web presence across all media.
SEO Help is an ongoing process rather than a one time fix. The more you work on the steps, the more you will revise and refine your optimization practice for your business. Quite likely, you will find yourself revising a practice months after your first read.

I called the review Es Mecum [the Latin Be with Me], after the Ancient guides that were called Vade Mecum (Walk with me, a collection of instructions, that is intended to provide ready reference).

In this book David Amerland walks you through the steps and processes for being and doing in the age of semantic search.
The book is a well-structured companion to building digital identity. It is extremely useful for two reasons:
gives you the big picture in digestible chunks of 20 subtopics
guides you all the way to shaping your and your business as an entity on the Web.
Avoiding the curse of knowledge, without over-simplifying the subject though, the author,makes the reader the most important person in the communication. Reading the book you are presented, in plain English, the whys and hows of what we as people and businesses have to do/create/transform in order to tap into the potential of the semantic search cornucopia.
Why be? is a question that till very recently sounded "politically incorrect" in the SEO World of tips, tactics, one-night solutions and mechanical approaches to visibility.
What I liked about David Amerland's SEO book is that it shows ways that allow people and businesses to grow their presence organically. The chapters include a lot of things regarding the very practical side of the semantic web.
I find essential that the Semantic Search Action Lists, provided after every chapter, have been and are being applied by the author himself everyday. David Amerland has walked the path he points to with this book many times both with his audience on Google + and with with his corporate clients, showing everybody around the Semantic Search world.
I have been following David on Google+ for almost two years and there is no single time when he was not an example for me.

A superb book (and guide) on SEO for any business

This book is a standout for 2 simple reasons: it's full of extremely potent information and it's small enough not to overwhelm anyone reading it and trying to implement the wisdom within.
The book is thoughtfully broken down into 20 steps, each dealing with a particular topic in the wondrous world of Google's Semantic Search and its impact on SEO. Each of the 20 steps contains 10 action steps, where the author guides the user with specific actions, thoughts and strategies. Thus, even though any business can read the book and benefit from it - the action steps allow for easy consumption (there are only 10 in each step), yet would be customized for each business trying to implement them.
It's an absolutely brilliant strategy on the part of the author of walking the reader through every step of the way, almost hand holding the user to ensure maximum success and proper implementation. Between the information in each chapter and the reader working on the steps - this book becomes an SEO bible, with built-in ability to help any size business, in any industry, in any country, to take control of their web presence and SEO to maximize that presence and be able to grow their business as an eventual results of incorporating every step and every action.
To help with tracking the details of action steps - the author also provides access to an online companion tool, making it easy to track the progress and use the tool to generate an SEO Blueprint for the business. Also, there's a Google+ Community, specifically dedicated to readers and users of the book, with categories of discussions mirroring the steps in the book, where the readers can share their thoughts, learn from each other and have direct access to the author himself.
To summarize - if you're running a business and care about being found online and being able to grow your business - this book is an absolute must.
